Yellow Rice

Fragrant turmeric rice with a hint of sweetness from raisins.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • 1 cinnamon stick optional
  • ¼ cup raisins optional

Equipment

  • Strainer

Method
 

  1. Rinse rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, bring water, salt, butter, and turmeric to a boil.
  3. Add the cinnamon stick (if using) and stir in rice.
  4. Cover and reduce heat to low; simmer 15–20 minutes until tender and all liquid is absorbed.
  5. Stir in raisins (optional) and fluff with a fork before serving.

TIP: Add a squeeze of lemon for a brighter flavour or a few toasted almonds for texture.
